How To Spend a Weekend in NYC

NYC hotel view from Arlo Nomad

I was going through some pictures of the New York city trip my boyfriend (who turned to fiancee during this trip) took me on back in July 2018. This was both of our first times to NY, and we both absolutely fell in love. Here’s how we spent our weekend in NYC.

We flew into LGA on a beautiful sunny Friday morning and took public transportation to downtown Manhattan. The transit system was very easy to use and navigate.

Where we stayed:

Arlo NoMad Hotel

A few months back I had shown my boyfriend a picture on instagram of a hotel room with the most beautiful view of the NYC, and that’s exactly where we stayed, Arlo NoMad Hotel, in room 2806. I really loved this hotel I wish I had pictures of the room itself. However, we were just so captivated by the view it was nothing like we’d ever seen.

After visiting NYC three times these are the areas I recommend staying in Manhatten:

  • Midtown – If this is your first time in NYC I highly recommend staying here. Midtown Manhattan boasts iconic landmarks such as Times Square, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Central Park’s southern edge, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and Grand Central Terminal.
  • Upper East Side – The Upper East Side is an affluent residential neighborhood in Manhattan known for its elegant brownstone-lined streets, upscale shopping along Madison Avenue, and proximity to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, and the Guggenheim Museum
  • Greenwich Village -Greenwich Village is a vibrant and culturally diverse neighborhood in Manhattan, characterized by its historic streets, artistic heritage, and a lively atmosphere with a rich blend of restaurants, shops, and nightlife. While in Greenwich visit, Washington Square Park, New York University (NYU), the Friends building and historic landmarks like the Stonewall Inn,

What we did:

We dropped of our bags and set off to see the big city. We had lots of things planned for our short 2.5 day stay. The Empire State Building, Top of the Rock, Central Park, Time Square, Business District, and all the delicious food we could possibly eat.

We bought a 2 day Hop On Hop Off pass and although we did use it and did enjoy seeing a lot of the city, we ended up walking almost everywhere! Which we didn’t plan on doing, and although I packed a lot of comfortable shoes, none where made for walking 14 miles which we ended up doing one of the days. Which isn’t so bad considering how much food we ended up eating!

Where we ate:

On our first full day we looked up a close bagel shop to get some breakfast at. We ended up choosing Bagels & Schmear, and their delicious bagels didn’t disappoint!  We walked to Madison Park and enjoyed our bagels there.

On our final day in NY we went to the 2nd Ave Deli, I ended up getting the hot pastrami sandwich, which I highly recommend. It was delicious, soft and buttery.. YUM.

After a long day of adventures we stopped into Ichiran Ramen Midtown, and ordered a bowl on ramen that you get to enjoy in your own single booth. This bowl of ramen was absolutely delicious the broth was rich and noodles were perfect.

Of course after watching Chef’s Table on Netflix we knew we had to visit Milk Bar. We ended up getting their creamy soft serve ice cream which was a perfect remedy for such a beautiful hot day and their  Birthday Cake Truffles.

We both can’t wait to take another trip back!

Have you been to NYC? Is there anything (place, hotel, food, etc.) you would recommend?  Let me know in the comments, I would love to hear about it.
