We drove to the airport for our 6 AM flight, and as we went to check in, we were notified that the flight was cancelled. Our new flight time was that afternoon, and so began our very jet-lagged adventure to San Francisco. With tired eyes and eager hearts, we stepped off the plane to witness the breathtaking beauty of San Francisco and its iconic architecture, a cityscape that seemed like a dream. We had the opportunity to explore some of the city’s most iconic attractions, from the bustling Fisherman’s Wharf, the nostalgic Full House homes, Chinatown, and the thrill of a baseball game. Join us as I take you on a journey through the heart of this captivating city.
Where we stayed:
What we did:
Fisherman’s Wharf: A Seafood Lover’s Paradise
Our adventure began at Fisherman’s Wharf, where the scent of saltwater and the cries of seagulls welcomed us. This historic waterfront area is a seafood lover’s dream, offering a array of fresh catches. We watched street performers entertain the crowds and took in stunning views of Alcatraz Island and the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.
A visit to the historic Hyde Street Pier, home to several beautifully restored historic ships, was also a highlight of our time at Fisherman’s Wharf.
The Painted Ladies: A Nostalgic Trip Down Memory Lane
From Fisherman’s Wharf, we headed to the Pacific Heights neighborhood to visit the iconic “Full House” homes. These colorful Victorian houses, instantly transported us back in time. While we couldn’t go inside, we marveled at the exquisite architecture and took countless photos to relive the nostalgia of the Tanner family’s adventures.
Chinatown: A World of Culture and Cuisine
No trip to San Francisco would be complete without exploring the enchanting Chinatown, the oldest and one of the most vibrant Chinese communities in North America. As we wandered through the bustling streets, we were captivated by the architecture, colorful lanterns, and the melodious sounds of traditional music. Chinatown offered an abundance of culinary delights, from dim sum restaurants to aromatic tea shops. We couldn’t resist trying some delicious dumplings and exploring the intriguing shops selling exotic herbs and traditional Chinese trinkets.
A Night at the Ballpark: Giants vs. Dodgers
To add some excitement to our San Francisco adventure, we attended a baseball game at Oracle Park. I’m not much of a sports fan, but I love watching games in person, the food and the atmosphere make it just so much more enjoyable. The stadium, with its breathtaking views of the bay and the Bay Bridge, offered an unforgettable backdrop.
Where we ate:
Sakana Sushi Bar & Grill
The sushi we had in San Francisco was probably the best I’ve ever had. Everything was so fresh and delicious, but for me it was the uni that changed my sushi experience forever. The uni at Sakana sushi is hands down the best piece of sushi I ever got to experience, it was so buttery and just melted in your mouth, it’s a must try!
Amorino Gelato
The gelato flower at Amorino was almost too beautiful to eat! The employees take so much care in how they place the different flavors to present you with the most beautiful flower. With some record heat during our trip to san fran, gelato was a perfect way to cool off.
Chowders:
Boudin
Whether you’re taking a leisurely stroll along Fisherman’s Wharf or dining in one of their charming cafes, indulging in Boudin’s famous sourdough bread is a savory delight that captures the essence of the city by the bay. Boudin Bakery, founded in 1849, is renowned for its iconic San Francisco sourdough bread, and it has a storied history that spans over a century and a half. When you visit Boudin Bakery in San Francisco, you can’t miss the delightful experience of choosing from a wide array of freshly baked sourdough bread.
Our trip to San Francisco was a whirlwind of diverse experiences, from indulging in seafood delights at Fisherman’s Wharf to reliving TV nostalgia at the Full House homes, immersing ourselves in the culture of Chinatown, and enjoying the excitement of a baseball game. San Francisco truly offers something for everyone, and its unique blend of history, culture, and natural beauty left an indelible mark on our hearts. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning for another adventure, the City by the Bay never ceases to amaze and inspire.
